Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

Phishing site: Don't use Caroozen.com!

A few weeks ago, a bogus site for securing payments between individuals appeared on the scene. It is loosely based on elements of Obvy and the HiPay payment platform. This fake site is very well done and can easily look legitimate. Don't be fooled.

Internet scams are becoming increasingly credible

Scammers are getting better and better at pulling off scams. But with this one, they've gone even further.

With the fake Caroozen secure payment platform for private individuals, the crooks have created a highly professional platform and a well-designed web application, all strongly inspired by Obvy.

Where we are used to phishing sites of mediocre quality and riddled with errors and mistakes, the Caroozen site plays the professionalism card. Everything is in place to reassure victims, from the organisation of the pages to the words chosen, not forgetting the ergonomics of the platform and the associated web application.

There's no doubt about it, this is the work of professionals... But crooks nonetheless.

To give the scam credibility, the people behind the platform relied on the sales pitches, charters and general terms and conditions of sale and purchase of well-known players such as Obvy and HiPay.

It is the latter who have been the most 'affected' by this scam, insofar as all the information linked to the confidentiality, use and sales policies are those of HiPay, even though this company has nothing to do with Caroozen.

HiPay is in no way a publisher of payment solutions for the general public. This platform provides its payment services to businesses and does not open accounts on behalf of end users.

HiPay does indeed hold customer funds, but only on behalf of its partner companies.

A well-crafted scam

The scammers behind Caroozen simply ask their victims to create an account on Caroozen, then secure the transaction funds on the platform. The victim will receive a RIB to which the transfer can be made, and the amount will be displayed on the application. The whole process is so well done that the victims have no idea that they are simply being robbed.

This is because the funds are not secured but diverted by the scammers, who recover them through the accounts given to their victims before disappearing into thin air.

A dozen victims already

8,500 to 27,000 euros. This is the amount of transactions already falsely secured by Caroozen. Several steps are being taken to have the platform closed down, but that hasn't stopped scammers publishing fake ads on ad sites or social networks from asking for "secure payment with Caroozen".

We strongly advise you not to contact or follow up with anyone who wishes to be paid through Caroozen.
